Intro to Yoga Workshop
Sat & Sun,March 3 & 4, 2012
Saturday (12pm to 1.30pm) and Sunday (12pm to 2.30pm)

A special two-day course designed to introduce yoga for students new to a practice, or for anyone who would like a brush-up on the basics.
In the course, led by Robyn Wexler and Elaine, we will talk discuss yoga as a philosophy and practice, teach many of the basic postures (asanas), and focus on breathing techniques and principles of in vinyasa yoga.

Teaching Yoga for Pregnant Women with Robyn Wexler

The training will include:
• The physiology of pregnancy and childbirth
• The physical and mental benefits of yoga during pregnancy
• Appropriate yoga poses for different stages of pregnancy
• Specific yoga practices to relieve common discomforts during pregnancy
• Helpful breathing practices – for pregnancy and childbirth
• How a woman’s pre-natal yoga practice can help her during childbirth and motherhood
• Poses to avoid during pregnancy
• How to successfully include pregnant women in general yoga classes
• Important guidelines and practices for Post-Natal rehabilitation
• Special invitation to observe at one of Yoga Yard’s Pre-natal Yoga classes

  Moving Into Meditation Yin/Yang Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation with Sarah Powers May 3 - 6, 2012

In this workshop, Sarah will provide an atmosphere for balancing the body, heart and mind through active and receptive yoga poses, as well as offering teachings on Mindfulness meditation so that we can deepen or develop a skillful and committed meditation practice. Yin yoga is an essential compliment to our more active styles and offers a vehicle to develop our contemplative nature. The Yin style also keeps the body supple at its core while encouraging stagnate chi (prana) to flow throughout the joints, engendering a quality of steady ease. The active practice helps rejuvenate our natural vitality while developing a core stability, coupled with meditative, body centered presence. This workshop will focus on the integration of our Yin and Yang aspects of being, creating a practice that values both vitality and insight. Mindfulness meditation and Loving kindness practice will be emphasized in both the beginning and ending sections of each session. Each day we will focus on the blend of Yin and Yang sequences intended to balance our energetic center, our earth stability (called the Hara or Dantien in Taoism) in the belly, with our more mobile, or ‘heavenly energy’ in the upper body.
