| Mimi Kuo-Deemer: Mimi is a co-founder and teacher at Yoga Yard. Her practice of yoga began in 1995, and emerged after 7 years of studying dance. Yoga is one of Mimi's loves, along with photography and cooking. She has worked as a documentary and portrait photographer since 1990, and credits yoga to her ongoing search through the camera lens for truth, compassion, atmosphere and beauty in the world. She seeks to engage life with changing perspective, respect, and spontaneity, and loves to share the happiness that yoga can bring. Mimi completed a teacher training in 2002 with Erich Schiffmann, who imparted on her the ideas that teaching, meditation and one's own yoga practice can be some of the greatest gifts in life. Donna Farhi, another teacher with whom she has studied, has helped her begin a more intuitive and subtle understanding of yoga and its teachings. She also draws inspiration from Sarah Powers, Matthew Cohen, and Max Strom, and most importantly, from her students and self-practice. Mimi's classes often start with short meditations and yin-yoga practices followed by more dynamic, vinyasa-style flowing movements. Her approach to teaching encourages students to explore greater self-awareness, strength, flexibility, and peace of mind. She works within students' individual limits toward gradual, transformative and healing change. Mimi teaches all levels of classes, and speaks both English and Chinese.
