Angela Gervan: Angela comes to Beijing and Yoga Yard after living in Japan for more than four years. A native of New Zealand, she has taught Yoga to both children and adults of all levels. Ange will be running Yoga Yard's new Kids Yoga program, as well as teaching a full schedule of adult classes of different levels. Angela's commitment and curiosity in Yoga was inspired by the continued flow of benefits she experienced (like recovery from asthma), soon after developing her own regular practice. This lead her to study Yoga and Ayurveda in India, in addition to continued study with international teachers in Japan. In July 2006, Angela completed a month-long Teacher Training with world-renowned Yoga Teacher Donna Farhi, before returning to Japan to teach elementary school full-time. In addition to Yoga, Angela has a rich variety of interests and hobbies that enhance her connection with people, culture and the environment. She has been involved with ongoing volunteer work in Cambodia with the non-profit organization PEPY , and throughout Asia with Habitat for Humanity . Angela's deep appreciation of Japanese culture has led her to study oftogei (pottery), sogetsu ikebana (free style flower arrangement), and shiatsu (Japanese hand healing). A lover of the outdoors, Angela is an avid snowboarder and scuba diver, and is fascinated with martial arts. She also enjoys running for fun, and completed her first marathon in Tokyo earlier this year. Angela is currently studying nutrition via a distance-learning course. Angela's inspiration to teach comes from her evolving Yoga practice, appreciation for nature and silence, friends she has crossed paths with in travel, and children: "whose relaxed movement, grace, non-judgment and pureness is Yoga." Angela's classes will support you in finding your own pace to move between stillness and motion with full breath awareness in creative, mindful and graceful flowing sequences. After a summer of traveling in Canada, Angela is excited to return to Asia, and join the Yoga Yard family this Autumn. |
