Lisa Sommer :

Lisa began the practice of yoga over 25 years ago while attending college in the US. From her first class, Lisa made a connection with yoga that would follow her into her twenties, thirties and forties. After practicing yoga for several years and working in the hotel business, she decided to leave the corporate world and begin a whole new journey. Lisa had her mind set on sharing her passion of yoga with others. Her first yoga certification was with The American Fitness Professionals Association which enabled her to begin teaching. After two years of leading yoga classes for several studios in Illinois, Lisa decided to specialize in Ashtanga yoga. She studied with David Swenson and received certification in teaching the primary series of Ashtanga yoga. The following two summers, Lisa returned to David for training in the second series. Resembling the changes we all face everyday, Lisa's yoga practice and teaching was constantly evolving. She started to become inspired by Vinyasa yoga where she sought out Jonny Kest as her teacher. Once comfortable with teaching both Ashtanga and Vinyasa, Lisa felt it was time for another change. In 2008, she began intensive study in ayurveda and yoga. Ayurveda is the sister science of yoga. It is the study of staying in balance through diet, meditation, yoga and lifestyle. She graduated from Kripalu School of Ayurveda with an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist certification in 2009. Today, Lisa shares her knowledge of both Ayurveda and Yoga in eclectic classes designed to leave you feeling balanced in both body and mind. If she had to describe her teaching and life in one sentence it would be: "nothing is permanent, we are all constantly changing!" She is looking forward to this moment in her life where she can learn from a whole new community and culture while also sharing her passion for yoga and ayurveda.
