Yin and Yang Yoga Teacher Training with Sarah Powers
April 14 - 18, 2010

Yin Yoga: An In-depth Exploration
Deepening our understanding of the purpose, method and effects of this contemplative practice in the body, heart and mind.

A Three-day Teacher Training Intensive with Sarah Powers for dedicated practitioners and teachers.

April 14 - 16, 2010 (Wed - Fri)

Wedneday will be dedicated to the physical and energetic details, deepening our understanding of how our yoga practice can enhance our vital energy (Prana or Qi), while understanding how the Yin poses affect the meridian system and specific organs to enhance our overall harmony of being. Thursday we will explore the emotional component, learning how the health of our organ system is intimately connected with balancing our emotional body. Friday we will look into the effect of this practice on calming and freeing the mind using Buddhist Mindfulness meditation.

Each class will be 5 hours with a combination of theory and practice, and time for questions. This intensive is suitable for those who want to teach this practice as well as those who are simply interested in deepening their understanding of Yin Yoga.

Please come with a basic understanding of the practice by having read Insight Yoga by Sarah and Yin Yoga by Paul Grilley. We also recommend you see both or their Dvd’s (www.pranamaya.com). And listen to Sarah’s CD Yin Yoga.

Yang Yoga: The Architecture of Yoga Poses

A Two-day Teacher Training Intensive for Intermediate Students and Teachers with Sarah Powers

April 17 - 18, 2010 (Sat and Sun)

Join Sarah to explore and refine your understanding of how to bring these yogic shapes alive within you. Sarah will focus on the combination of inner (breath and energy channels) and outer (cohesion within the bones and muscles) alignment, as well as the use of touch to assist yoga practitioners in finding an integral aliveness within yoga postures. The main emphasis will be to discover how to use hands-on adjustments to bring a greater awareness to the stable part of the pose, allowing the rest of the body to discover where there may be enhanced capacity for movement. This intensive will benefit teachers who work hands-on with others, as well as anyone interested in learning a greater acuity of attention in the yoga postures. Please bring a pad and pen to write down the adjustments for future reference.

Saturday: Standing Poses and Inversions

Sunday: Back Bends and Forward Bends

About Sarah Powers

Sarah Powers began teaching in 1987. She interweaves the insights and practices of Yoga and Buddhism into an integral practice to enliven the body, heart and mind. Her yoga style blends both a Yin sequence of long held poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems, combined with a flow or Yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga, and Iyengar teachings. Sarah feels that enlivening the physical and pranic bodies, as well as learning to open to our emotional difficulties is paramount for preparing one to deepen and nourish insights into one's essential nature--a natural state of awareness. She draws from her studies in Transpersonal Psychology, as well as her in-depth training in the Vipassana, Tantric and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism. She is co-founder of Metta Journeys, a service oriented organization that offers yoga retreats internationally to help women and children in developing countries. She also teaches trainings and silent retreats with her husband Ty. They live with their teen-age daughter Imani-Jade in Marin, California. She is author of the upcoming book Insight Yoga: Integrating Yin/Yang Yoga and Buddhist Meditation. www.sarahpowers.com
