Connecting to the vibration of the World

“The Universe, our body, are built on the Gold Number. The music is the expression of this number. By singing the notes, we tune our ‘instrument’ to the law of natural balance and harmony, to the deepest of our cells” (Bimal Krishna)

Everything is vibration. This workshop is about getting in touch with the natural vibration of Nature by exploring the musical modes of the Ragas. By singing those notes and their ornamentation, we connect our deep Self to the rhythmic vibration of the Universe, we free our mind, and balance the elements of our body, until the deepest level of our cells.

Carnatic Music
The Carnatic Music has been transmitted orally, from master to disciple, for generations. The student learns by imitation: the master sings and the disciple repeats, until perfect reproduction of the melodic line. This process, that falls under a feeling of the body more than an intellectual understanding of the mind, has the advantage of being intended for musicians as much as non-musicians, for beginners as much as advanced students.
Singing!
Our class will be set up traditionally, the same way it is taught in India: seated, we begin the class by chanting the primordial sounds of the Ragas that correspond to the first natural harmonics. Then the teacher sings, first simple notes, then melodic phrases, then entire melodic lines, that the students repeat, until they acquire a certain autonomy. The student, thus, is totally guided and sings by himself only when he can repeat the melody perfectly. The whole thing is accompanied by the tanpura that creates a field of harmonics with a drone.

The point is to find one’s voice through the beauty of an extremely rich musical tradition....and to enter the universe of India by singing a repertoire that has been around for  centuries.

(Bimal Krishna)
